News from West, Texas and West Lodge #475 courtesy of the Grand Lodge of Texas website:

21 April

We received an update from West Lodge No. 475. This morning they were allowed to visit their lodge building and check for damages. The north wall of the building was bowed from the blast, there are multiple ceiling tiles down, and photos were knocked off of the walls. There is water damage from a ruptured waterline, a broken toilet and possibly from roof damage sustained in the explosion. The ceiling beams may be bowed and ceiling beam welds appear to have been distressed.

As of now, there are no reports of injured West Lodge members or damaged member property.

The lodge is currently working with their insurance company to appraise the damages.

20 April

We have another update regarding the situation in West.

Brother Scott Burgess, who was injured in the explosion, was released from the hospital on the 20th. His insurance company is making arrangements for temporary housing and transportation.
There will be an open meeting on Monday, 6:30pm at Lorena Lodge to discuss ways to assist Brother Burgess and West Lodge.

Reports are that Brother Burgess has been in good spirits despite the loss of his family’s home and personal belongings, including his Masonic apron and Bible. While he is not in immediate financial need, assistance will likely be needed at some point.

The members of West No 475 have not been able to check their lodge building for damage, but they report that from a distance, it appears to be okay. They are not aware of any member of their lodge that is in need of assistance, but that may change.
